Roemer van Toorn is an architect, photographer, writer and curator in the field of architecture and visual culture. He is professor architectural theory at the UMA school of architecture Umeå University Sweden. He has been in charge of the history and theory program, and was head of publications at the Berlage Institute Postgraduate Laboratory of Architecture, the Netherlands from 1993 - 2010. As author and photographer he has contributed to many international publications and exhibitions. Currently he is investigating how different contemporary practices can make architecture politically under the title Aesthetics as a Form of Politics, while finalizing his Society of the And text-image publication with the support of the Swedish Research Council Formas Architecture in Effect, Stockholm.
